How to Build Fan Engagement
I once heard a local artist talking in the paper about how poorly local music is supported in Atlanta. He’s out of his mind. People in Atlanta support live music just fine. Hell, I made a living for a number of years playing in bands, and I barely know which end of a guitar is the tuning part.
It gets me thinking, though. As much as I like the spirit of a phrase like “Support Local Music,” I don’t think we can ask people to support us just because we’re musicians, or even just because we’re local. That said, I think that if we make music people want to consume, people will consume it. If we put on shows worth seeing, people will come to them.
